Initially the film it looks like a routine poor boy-rich girl love story. Beginning from the time when Uma (Sridevi), a college girl, falls for the simplicity of tea-boy Babu (Dhanush). The turning point in the script comes when the affluent Dr Bala (Kunal), smitten by Uma, proposes marriage, and her parents urge her to give it a thought. Weighing the pros and cons of a future with either of the men the practical Uma goes by her parents' wish. Here Babu files a complaint at a local police station against Uma as Uma loved Babu and but she is going to marry Dr. Bala. She gets summons from the court. The narration does pep up from this point, giving a much needed fillip to the initial lagging script, the pace maintained till the end. In a way it makes up for the crudity of the earlier scenes.
