Srinivas (Madhavan) is a famous writer and wants to write about an orphan child. Indira (Simran), his neighbour, suggests that instead of writing about her, Srinivas should adopt the girl. He is met with opposition from the Red Cross because he is a bachelor. So Srinivas proposes to and marries Indira, and they adopt the baby girl, whom they name Amrutha (Baby Keerthana). Indira later gives birth to two sons, and when Amrutha turns 9, Srinivas reveals that she was born to a refugee from Sri Lanka. Amrutha wants to meet her real mother.
